Lamu town is a remote Island, without any terrestrial connection to the internet. Therefore all connections in the town are VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) and are only accessible to major institutions like banks, post offices and bigger hotels target to tourists.

This makes the cost of accessing the internet extremely high and is largely out of reach to the common Lamu town resident.

We therefore went for high frequency KU Band; VSAT link which has has a download/upload speed of 100KBPS.  The connection goes through a proxy server to ensure optimal use of the link.
